Convenor resigns before vote of no confidence taken

Councillor Vincent Waters had been the subject of a local petition which had been organised by party members of the SNP’s Eastwood branch.

The Extra understands that a growing number of party members had become disgruntled with Mr Waters behaviour, which has been aired across many social media forums.

The councillor, who was one of the masterminds of the SNP’s defeat of Jim Murphy in the general election had been Kirsten Oswald’s campaign manager, and, as the results were announced, it became obvious that the campaign had been hugely succesful.

The councillor who represents Giffnock and Thornliebank on on East Renfrewshire Council had failed to secure the nomination for the SNP’s Eastwood branch for the Holyrood elections in 2016, and who claimed at the time that the selection procedures are being used to protect sitting MSPs.

At a special general meeting convened in Clarkston Halls this week arounf 100 members attended to hear the motion on a vote of no confidence.

However just prior to the party members being asked to vote, the councillor notified the representatives that he was standing down with immediate effect.

Mr Waters declined to comment as we went to press.
