Cops investigate Barrhead assault

Police are investigating after a man was assaulted while walking along a Barrhead street on New Years Day.

The 38-year-old was walking in Arthurlie Street around noon when he was approached from behind, pulled to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked on the head and face.

The man was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where staff described his condition as stable.

DC Jacqui Carroll, of Pollok CID, said: “This was a particularly vicious attack. We are currently viewing CCTV in the area and I’d like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Arthurlie Street at midday who either witnessed the attack or perhaps saw the culprit running off.”
