Being treated as a serious assault, the incident took place on Tuesday, December 1, between 2.15pm and 2.45pm, in the south taxi lane on Eglinton Street.

The blue Skoda Octavia taxi came to a halt at the traffic lights at Kilbirnie St when the rear seat passenger was punched in the face by a male cyclist also stopped at the lights.

The 30-year-old male driver got out of the car to see what was happening when he was also punched in the face by the cyclist, who then cycled off in an unknown direction.

The injured driver went to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was treated for a fractured cheekbone and eye socket, and a broken nose.

The passenger sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment, while a second male passenger was unharmed.

The cyclist is white, of slim build with dark grey eyes and a Scottish accent. He was wearing an all in one cycling suit, but no helmet, and rode a blue and white bike.

Detective constable Kenny MacEwan, Cathcart CID, said: “It would appear that the rear seat passenger and the cyclist had some sort of altercation as the car stopped at the lights, and the cyclist assaulted him and then the taxi driver.

“I am sure there would have been other cars at the junction at the time of the incident so I would ask that they, or anyone who has information that will help our enquiry, contact Cathcart CID via 101.”
