Council calls time on best bar applications

In a joint initiative with police, fire and rescue and the business sector, licensed premises can apply for accreditation from the Best Bar None awards that aims to make local haunts and East Ren streets safe and hassle free.

But time is running out for applications under the scheme as the deadline of this coming Monday, August 31, is looming.

The initial pilot scheme, which was open to Barrhead and Uplawmoor premises, is being rolled out to all eligible licensed premises throughout East Renfrewshire.

Best Bar None Scotland was developed to work together with the licensed trade to create a safer and more welcoming licensing environment and leisure economy.

This would effectively make Scotland’s towns and city centres more attractive places for people to live, work and visit.

Senior East Renfrewshire trading standards officer Alison Bannister said: “It’s important that residents and visitors see that bars and clubs are accredited as safe places to visit and enjoy a drink.”

The focus of the scheme is on public safety and customer care as well as the following important key principles of prevention of crime and disorder; securing public safety; prevention of public nuisance; protecting and improving public health; and protection of children from harm.
