Council offer repair service

NORTH Lanarkshire Council are reminding residents over 65 or with a disability to take advantage of their care and repair handyperson service.

The local authority have launched a more integrated care and repair, which is jointly funded by the council and NHS Lanarkshire and is delivered by the Link Group in association with Horizon Housing Association.

For home owners aged 65 and over or for people with a disability, the small repairs service provides a qualified tradesperson to carry out internal works including joinery, plumbing and electrical work.

There is a small charge of £10 plus VAT, and the owner must cover the cost of any materials used.

The handyperson service is available to all people who are of pensionable age and is free of charge.

This service covers non tradesmen type of work.

Tasks could include curtain hanging, changing light bulbs, packing boxes etc and are mainly delivered by local volunteers.

Councillor Sam Love, convener of housing and social work services, said: “Our care and repair/handyperson service is in place to help people live independently, safely and securely in their own homes and communities and is a valuable service to some of our more vulnerable residents.
