The three council-led events run March and April in a bid to bring parents, community and local businesses into contact with agencies working to stamp out harm to those most in danger.

East Renfrewshire Council has stated that they were set up in response to “parental concerns about internet safety and protecting young people from grooming” and all are welcome to attend — including youngsters over 11, who will receive a special backpack.

Councillor Alan Lafferty, convener for health and social care, said: “We all have a responsibility for the well-being of children, young people and vulnerable adults in our community.

“These events will help to inform how we can all play a part to ensure that children and young people are safe and protected from harm or abuse, while undertaking activities that encourage them to develop and grow. They will also inform on how we can protect adults from harm too.”

The first session, Keeping children safe in the community and online, will be delivered by Children 1st and runs next Thursday (March 26) 7-8.30pm at Barrhead Foundry.

The Foundry also hosts Tackling child sexual exploitation on Wednesday, April 1, 7-8.30pm, with children’s charity Barnardo’s taking centre stage.
