Council wants your views on proposed service cuts

North Lanarkshire residents are to be consulted over proposed cuts to council services.

More than 150,000 homes will be targeted in a 20,000 consultation exercise to give residents their say on a range of options which aim to make savings of up to 70million over the next two years.

Last week the News and Chronicle reported that a bleak time lies ahead for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth residents as the council is forced to make a minimum of 55million savings over the two year period.

Proposed changes include 1,173 job cuts, reduction in services and closure of community facilities.

A 36 page report outlining the proposals was presented to councillors on the policy and resource committee last week.

Council leader, Councillor Jim McCabe, said: "There is no doubt the next few years will be painful for both the council and our residents and we will be faced with hard choices and big decisions.
