Councillor and youth activist selected for Glasgow Tories

The Glasgow Conservatives have selected their candidates for the UK Parliament election — and standing for a southside seat is one of East Renfrewshire’s own.

Councillor Gordon McCaskill, current representative for Netherlee, Stamperland and Williamwood, is taking on the fight for Glasgow South West.

Mr McCaskill told The Extra: “Glasgow Conservatives will campaign hard in every Glasgow seat.

“The SNP accuse Labour of doing nothing in Glasgow for 50 years. We say the Scottish SNP government has done nothing in Glasgow for 8 years.

“The Conservatives long term economic plan is helping Glasgow and helping Scotland. Vote Conservative and we can do much more.”

Contesting the Glasgow South seat is Kyle Thornton, British Youth Council vice chair and former Scottish Youth Parliament chair.

The South candidate tweeted that he was “incredibly proud to be selected” last week before hitting the campaign trail in Giffnock with East Renfrewshire candidate David Montgomery.

The seven city candidates have the backing of Pollokshields councillor David Meikle, who said: “I look forward to working with them to promote the achievements of the Conservative government.”

Patricia Cunningham, chair of the Glasgow Conservative group, added: “We have selected seven really good people from all backgrounds. They are now keen to get out and campaign across the city.”
