Unison, the biggest union in South Lanarkshire Council, has written to every elected member asking for their support in the union’s campaign.

Branch chairwoman, Margaret Gallacher, who works for South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, said: “We hope councillors will consider their responsibility for ensuring that the staff who deliver the services to the local communities are properly rewarded.”

Meanwhile, Unison set up a picket line outside South Lanarkshire Council HQ last Friday. However, they were not asking the workers not to cross their picket line – yet.

Instead workers were being leafleted as part of Unison’s campaign for a better pay deal.
