Councillors call for JP court closure u-turn

Councillors debated the plans to close Cumbernauld Justice of the Peace Court during North Lanarkshire Council’s full meeting last Thursday.

Councillor Heather McVey lodged a motion calling for the local authority to ask the Scottish Government to reverse the decision.

Councillor Tom Johnston, however, argued against the motion.

A Scottish Government spokeswoman said the closure will take place in November.
