Courts seize nearly £70k from North Glasgow brothel manager

A WOMAN who admitted running a brothel in Glasgow has had ill-gotten gains seized.

Jane Burns (48), from Balornock, had previously pled guilty to operating a brothel in Glasgow. She is due to be sentenced on November 17.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court last week a confiscation order for £69,115 was granted against Burns.

Lindsey Miller, head of the Serious and Organised Crime Division (SOCD), said: “Jane Burns was caught running an illegal brothel from her flat in Berkeley Street, Glasgow.

“Brothel-keeping, like any other criminal offence which makes money, is subject to the powers of the Proceeds of Crime Act. In this case, the court classed Burns’s brothel-keeping as a ‘lifestyle’ offence, enabling us to look at her finances over the six years leading up to her arrest.

“Our financial investigators found that £137,115 of Burns’s income could not be accounted for legitimately.”

The confiscation order for £69,115 represents the amount available at the present time. The money will be re-invested via the CashBack for Communities scheme.

The flat is now being repossessed.
