Craftex win as sweet as honey for student Helen

Glasgow Clyde College student Helen Pickering has that proved you get more awards with honey at Craftex 2014, taking home a coveted prize for her hand-crafted honey pot.

Helen, from Battlefield, was awarded the deacon convener’s design prize for her honey pot in silver and gold, as well as a chance to show off the piece at the Craftex exhibition in the Trades Hall of Glasgow.

The 26-year-old is completing her HND in jewellery and silversmithing, and completed the honey pot in just one week, having been awarded a bursary from the Scottish Goldsmiths Trust to create a piece selected from her sketch book.

She said: “It’s a real honour for my work to be recognised. My senior lectured, Anne Graham, has given me such great encouragement during my time at the Cardonald campus.”

Helen plans to continue creating commissioned work, as well as selliing jewellery from a store in her hometown of Kirkaldy.
