Craig Ferguson buys mansion in Ayrshire

CUMBERNAULD’S most famous son, Craig Ferguson, will be spending some of his free time back in the old country - after snapping up a £2 million mansion.

Yet anyone who imagines that he has done so in this area would be mistaken - for the lavish 15-bedroom property is in Ayrshire.

Thrice-married Mr Ferguson (49), who is said to earn around £8 million a year, returned to Cumbernauld last month to film a special Scottish section for his Late Late Show - but filming was clearly not the only thing on his mind.

For it was on this visit that Mr Ferguson viewed the majestic Blair Estate, situated between Dalry and Kilwinning.

It is believed that he wanted to have a Scottish holiday home where he could introduce his sons Milo (10) and one-year- old Liam to their Scottish heritage. The property is believed to date back to the 12th century.

Last month Mr Ferguson prompted a storm of protest locally after appearing to agree with criticism of his home town on his US show, which saw him branded a traitor by locals.
