Craigholme girls take Manhattan

GIRLS from Craigholme school took a bite out of the Big Apple last month when they visited as part of a choral tour.

The Pollokshields school sent its 36-strong festival choir — made up of first, second and third year pupils — to New York for two concerts.

The youngsters performed at the Manhattan campus of the British International School, with a programme including Fat Sam’s Grand Slam from Bugsy Malone, Peter Piper and How Much is that Doggy in the Window? (complete with barking sound effects).

New friends at the New York school then invited the group to join the girls for a picnic at Strawberry Fields, Central Park, afterwards.

The festival choir also sang during evening mass at St Paul the Apostle church on Columbus Avenue.

A Craigholme representative told The Extra: “The tour was also a learning experience for the girls, who got to see professional singers in action in a Broadway performance of Wicked, and received tuition from one of the show’s stars the next day in a musical theatre workshop.

“And of course, the group also managed to fit in some shopping, as well as sightseeing at the Empire State Building, 9/11 Memorial and a trip on the Staten Island ferry.”
