Accountant in £42,000 crime spree admits his guilt

An Eaglesham accountant, who was said to be a respected church member will return to court to learn his fate next month following a £42,000 embezzlement case.

Douglas McAllister had been hired as the financial director of Mandor’s Fabrics after owner Karen Deutsch fell seriously ill.

McAllister, who had previously been the firms auditor, used his position of trust to steal a total of £42,395, using a variety of means, including diverting money to his personal account and spending on the company credit card.

The 48-year-old man’s reckless behaviour between February 2012 and November 2014 was uncovered by Mrs Deutsch in a routine check of the company’s email account when she found explicit messages between McAllister and a former colleague.

McAllister has since repaid £30,000 of the funds embezzled, and his defence agent, Ross Yuill, claimed in court that the final payment of £12,000 would be made prior to his client’s next appearance when he will be sentenced for the offence.
