Blades had admitted the charge last year, but sentence was deferred for various reasons.

The court heard he returned home after a night working away to find his pet had chewed up £400 worth of carpet and vinyl flooring.

Police were alerted after he was seen kicking the dog outside.

Blades admitted he lost his temper when he saw the damage to the floor coverings which had only just been fitted.

He said: “I took the dog downstairs to let him out. I did kick him, but it wasn’t hard.”
