Car set on fire in deliberate attack in Pollokshields

Police are investigatng after a car was deliberately set on fire in Pollokshields last night (Wednesday, April 22).

Around 10pm, officers were called to a report of a BMW 1 series car being set alight in Maxwell Drive, Pollokshields.

Detective Sergeant Alan Ferguson, at Cathcart Police Office, said: “We have been carrying out enquiries in the area of Maxwell Drive, and gathering CCTV footage to find out more information on this fire and to trace whoever is responsible.

“There was no one in the vehicle at the time and luckily no one was injured by the fire, but those responsible for this crime must be caught.

“I am asking people in Maxwell Drive around the time the fire was set, who witnessed anything that may help our investigation, to contact us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information, or anyone driving in the area who has dash-cam footage is asked to phone Cathcart Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 4139 of 22 April.

Earlier this month, police were called to a care fire in Shetland Drive, Simshill.

Around 1.45am on Tuesday, April 7, an elderly couple, both in their 70s, woke up to find their car, a black Volkswagen Golf, on fire outside.

Emergency services were called and the fire was extinguished. However, the car was totally burnt out.
