Cumbernauld disturbance leads to arrest of armed man

A highly charged incident which took place both outdoors and indoors has led to the arrest of a 19-year old man who lashed out at police.

The drama unfolded on Saturday (June 27) around 7.40pm - amidst a number of eyewitness reports that a man had been seen on Kildrum’s Kyle Road with a knife.

The officers arrived at the scene and identified the man in question.

However, the suspect ran off into a nearby property - with the officers in pursuit.

Police gained entry to the home but were allegedly subjected to an assault by the man they were looking for.

He was then arrested and has been charged on a number of counts.

These include breaching curfew conditions plus threatening and abusive behaviour. This is in addition to the charge the man faces for carrying a knife

A report on this incident has been sent to the procurator fiscal in Airdrie.
