Cumbernauld sneak thief in hi-vis vest arrested after church grounds targeted

Police want information about a man who plundered church grounds on two separate occasions -but was foiled after his actions were caught on CCTV.

The 39-year-old culprit was hard to miss too - as he was wearing a high visibility vest over a black anorak at the time of the incidents.

These saw St Joseph’s church in Carbrain targeted on two separate occasions - on Thursday, August 6 and Sunday August 9. Officers were called in the following day and scrutined CCTV footage that had been made available.

This resulted in the man being arrested and charged with the incidents in question - and it has been confirmed that the items he stole f rom their owner have beenreturned.

However the matter did not end there.

For the same man was also found to have been responsible for shoplifting at a premises nearby the church.

Now it emerges that police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen this man acting suspicously in their midst.

Communities inspector Neil MacLeod said:” If anyone is aware of any similar type offences or suspicious activity by someone matching this description they are encouraged to call police on 101 quoting crime reference number NC01260820.”
