Driver fleeing from police chase crashes into shop window

A driver being pursued by police vehicles drove at high speeds in an attempt to evade being caught, before crashing into a shop front at Byrne Home Improvements store on the southside last night (Tuesday, April 18).

Around 9.45pm Divisional Road Policing Officers attempted make a routine traffic stop on St Andrews Road, Glasgow. The vehicle, a Vauxhall Corsa, allegedly failed to stop and was followed for a distance through Pollokshields and Govanhill before it collided with the shop front on Clarkston Road at the junction with Brunton Street in Cathcart.

The 20 year-old driver was taken by police to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to receive treatment for non-serious injuries as a result of the collision.

No one else was injured as a result.

A 20 year-old man was arrested in connection with alleged road traffic and drugs offences.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
