Fire service called out to tackle blaze at Milngavie town centre

The fire service was called out to tackle a blaze at Milngavie town centre last night (Tuesday, October 13)

Vandals had deliberately set a large store bin ablaze near the Holland and Barrett shop.

The blaze is the latest in a spate of similar fires in East Dunbartonshire.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.42pm on Tuesday, October 13, to reports of a store bin on fire near the Holland and Barrett store on Douglas Street, Milngavie, Dunbartonshire.

“Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire and left after ensuring the area was made safe.

“There were no reported casualties.”

Firefighters were also called out to tackle a blaze in the grounds of a primary school at Bishopbriggs.

A fire spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.45pm on Tuesday, October 13, to reports of rubbish on fire within the grounds of Wester Cleddens Primary School, Bishopbriggs.

“Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire and left after ensuring the area was made safe.

“There were no reported casualties.”

The fire service was also called out around 9.20pm on the same night to tackle rubbish on fire at Park Avenue, Bishopbriggs.
