Getaway car used in murder believed to have been stolen in Pollokshields

A car stolen in Pollokshields last month is believed to have been used by the suspect in the murder of a man outside his home.

Detectives are investigating the murder of Gary More in Airdrie.

Around 8.10pm on Thursday, September 6, 32 year-old Gary More was outside his home in Gartness Drive, when he was shot by a man who got out of a white vehicle, believed to be a Skoda Fabia car.

Emergency services attended, but Mr More was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect got back into the Skoda car and it was seen to drive off from Gartness Drive. Officers believe there were a number of occupants within this vehicle.

The same model and colour of car was later found burnt out near Craigmaddie Road in Balmore, Milngavie.

Despite the damage, forensic officerrs are carrying a meticulous examination of the vehicle, and also the area where it was found.

Enquiries carried out so far have revealed that this vehicle was stolen on August 2 from the Pollokshields area.

Its true identity is SH13 UMG, but at this stage it is not known what registration plates were on the vehicle at the time it was set alight.

Enquiries are continuing to determine if this car is the same vehicle used in the murder.

Officers are also appealing for information as to its whereabouts between August 2, when it was stolen, and the evening of Thursday, September 6.

A number of sightings of a similar described white Skoda Fabia were made in the Airdrie area, and there was also a possible sighting of a white Skoda Fabia near to Kirkintilloch, which is heading in the general direction of where the burnt out vehicle was found.

Detective Superintendent Jim Smith, from the Major Investigations Team, said: “A team of highly experienced detectives continue to work on this enquiry. We are doing everything we can to trace whoever is responsible and we would appreciate any assistance the public can provide, as even the smallest piece of information could be vital to this murder investigation.”
