Staff at Kessington Medical Centre at Milngavie Road were shocked to arrive this morning (Tuesday) to find a front waiting room window had been shattered.

It is believed the thug may have used either a brick or a hammer to inflict the damage.

It is unclear at the moment if the incident was an attempted break-in or mindless vandalism.

A member of staff told the Herald: “We wanted to bring this to your attention to make the local community aware that we had a potential break-in last night or the early hours of the morning.

"Obviously this has made staff feel unsettled as we have never experienced such an incident before.2

She added: “When we arrived this morning the waiting room window had been severely shattered – but not smashed – with a brick or what I think looks like a hammer.

"We feel this target on a GP practice has been very hard on moral as we have been working extremely hard during the Covid pandemic to ensure our patients’ medical needs have been met.

"Our GP's, nursing and administrative staff have all taken part in the Covid vaccination programme at Milngavie Town Hall to work against this virus and try to get life for the people in Bearsden back to some sort of new normal.”

The thug or thugs left their footprints behind in the snow outside the surgery after the incident.

A police spokesperson said they were investigating the incident and making door-to-door inquiries as well as checking CCTV footage.

He added: “We are appealing to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the vicinity of the surgery overnight on Monday, February 8 – no matter how minor a detail - to get in touch with Bearsden police on 101.”

Local MSP Rona Mackay said: “Our GP surgeries and local healthcare teams have been at the forefront of protecting our community from COVID-19. This is the last thing they should be worried about and it’s an abhorrent act which deserves called out. I will contact Police Scotland for an update but I would strongly encourage anyone with information to come forward and assist police.”
