Gun thug terrified staff at Spar shop

Detectives hunting a burly gun-armed thug are urging anyone with information about the crime to get in touch immediately.

The 6ft tall robber threatened two members of staff at the Spar shop in Dorchester Avenue at 10.30pm on Thursday, October 27, before fleeing in a small white van with a four-figure sum in cash.

No firearm was discharged and nobody was injured, but the victims – a 24-year-old man and 30-year-old woman – were left badly shaken by their ordeal.

The suspect had a balaclava or scarf across his face. He was wearing a high vis jacket and gloves with a grey hooded top with dark jeans and white trainers, and was carrying a pink and white striped carrier bag.

Detective Sergeant Raymond Hunter said: “We are continuing our investigation to trace the man responsible and are studying CCTV footage and carrying out enquiries in the local area.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw a man matching this description around the time of the robbery to contact us, in particular I would like to speak to customers who visited the nearby shops and the ATM machine around 2030 hours, as they may have information that is vital to this investigation.

“Anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, should contact the Community Investigations Unit at Govan through 101.
