Laura Taylor has hit out after vandals struck at the Peel Park play fort last week.
She told the Herald: “I was at the park on Monday and there’s lots of racist and homophobic graffiti as well as some with sexual references covering the large fort.”
She added: “I reported this to the council only to receive a very disappointing response that they had tried to wash it but had not managed to clear it.
"They state they have plans to sand and varnish it but that this will take time. This issue is not being taken seriously. Children should not have to view this.”
The Herald contacted the council on Monday.
Thomas Glen, Depute Chief Executive - Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets, said: “It is disappointing that a few irresponsible individuals have already defaced this brand new community play park, which is much-used by local children.
"As soon as we were made aware of the most recent incident of vandalism, a team was dispatched to inspect and remove it and spent two days erasing most of the offensive material.
"Unfortunately, not all of the markings could be removed and the team was required to sand down the play equipment in order to remove the remaining graffiti.
"The majority of people who visit our parks come to enjoy them and do treat them with respect, unfortunately there is a small number of those who do not and instead engage in antisocial behaviour.
"Antisocial behaviour should be reported to the Police on 101. TheCommunity Wardens can also be contacted on 0300 123 4510."
