Detective Chief Inspector Pat Campbell, in charge of the investigation, said: “This was an extremely violent attack which has left a young man fighting for his life. It happened in broad daylight in a busy residential area so I’m convinced someone knows who’s responsible.

“I’d ask anyone with any information to contact CID at Coatbridge Police Office 01236 502 000 or the non-emergency number 101. I understand people can sometimes be reluctant to talk to us directly, so it’s worth remembering reports can be made anonymously via CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111.”
