New stay away warning for Motherwell beauty spot
It comes after more fed-up members of the public raised concerns about crowds of youths gathering at the nature reserve-flouting the rules on both social distancing and anti-social behaviour.
The Motherwell Times has learned too that the area is acting as a magnet for teenage tipplers who are travelling from across North Lanarkshire‘s rail network to make their way there via Airbles station.

Hide AdA police spokesperson confirmed: “There will be increased patrols at Barons Haugh and the surrounding area over the next while.
“This is unfortunately due to increased number of youth disorder calls.”
Councillor Agnes Magowan also expressed her dismay at the rising number of cases and has been holding talks with officers as damage to the area intensifies.
The Scottish Nationalist said: “The police are very aware of the problems and are doing their best to contain it even to the extent of having mounted police and dirt bikes down in the sanctuary.

Hide Ad“Unfortunately the situation has worsened during the pandemic due to indoor parties not being allowed.
“I would ask that parents speak to their youngsters in regard to the dangers of this type of behaviour. That way we can preserve this beautiful area for pursuits like walking, cycling, bird watching, running and improving mental health by being outdoors.”
