Police deal with lockdown disorder in Motherwell

Lockdown flouting at a strictly off-limits gathering at a Motherwell tower block led to police dishing out fines on Saturday (November 14).

Those inside the property in Muirhouse Tower had created a noise nuisance during the evening which saw fed-up neighbours place a call to council officers charged with tackling anti-social conduct in the authority’s homes.

This in turn led to a police call-out around 9.45pm as the party was in full swing.

A police spokesperson said: “On arrival, numerous persons were found breaching the coronavirus guidelines and three people were issued with fixed penalty notices.”

Police also dealt with another instance of anti-social behaviour the following day after a customer buying alcohol in a Motherwell shop lashed out at a member of staff .

Officers were called to Broomburn Wines in Muir Street, Motherwell around 4.50pm.

This was due to the alleged conduct of a 22-year-old man who was under the influence of alcohol and was making a nuisance of himself.

The man had been asked to leave the premises but he refused to do so.

Instead it is alleged that he picked up a multi-pack of beer cans and threw them at the cashier.

A short struggle ensued on the shop floor and the male was escorted from the premises.

It is then alleged that he spat in the face of the shop worker.

Police found the male nearby in possession of what was believed to be stolen alcohol from the shop in question.

The man was held in custody.

He is due to appear in court at a later date.
