Police firework warning

There will be no municipal firework displays anywhere in North Lanarkshire this year - making police doubly determined to crack down on the abuse of fireworks.

They have set up a designated email address aimed at anyone who sees pyrotechnics being used as a means of causing distress in our neighbourhoods.

And members of the public are being reminded of the clear-cut set of rules governing their use.

He said:“It is an offence to possess fireworks under the age of 18 and to sell fireworks to anyone under the age of 18.

“It is also an offence to let off fireworks between 11pm and 7am - or midnight on bonfire night.

“Anyone who throws or sets off fireworks in a public place or causes unnecessary suffering to animals is committing an offence.

“We would also like to remind people that fires can get quickly out of hand and risk lives.

For some, Bonfire Night can be a time of distress and upset - so be safe this bonfire night and think of others.
