Police issue alert on fake police car robbers


The criminals are equipped with police gear, including handcuffs, to make them seem authentic.
Victims trying to sell cars on Gumtree were contacted by supposed interested buyers who then arranged to meet them.

In two separate cases this week, one on the south side, two men claiming to be plain clothes officers then arrived and stole the car they were supposed be going to view.
The first man is described as mid to late 20’s, 5ft 8ins, medium to stocky build, with a pale complexion and short dark brown hair.
He was last seen wearing G Star jeans and a dark waterproof jacket.
The second man is described as around 6ft, slim build, with a pale complexion and short red hair.
He was last seen wearing black Nike trousers.

Detective Sergeant Mike Leyton from Cathcart CID said: “There have been a number of incidents of this nature reported to police and it is important that people are vigilant when selling vehicles or other items online.
“Please be on your guard and ensure any interested buyers are genuine before arranging to meet anyone.
“If you have any concerns or information of this nature you can contact your local police via 101 for assistance.”
