Police probe kids' home

Officers have launched the investigation after being contacted by an individual who has claimed they were abused while in the care of Park Lodge Children’s Care Home in Newlands.

The care home in Calderwood Road has since closed, and it is understood that this enquiry is being carried out separately from the national inquiry into child abuse in Scotland.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who was either an employee or was resident within the home between 1979 and 1985.

Anyone who has information that may assist officers with their enquiries is asked to contact Detective Constable Stuart Esplin, Greater Glasgow Public Protection Unit, London Road Police Office via 101.

Police Scotland said no further details were available at this time, and refused to elaborate on the details of their enquiry or the number of complaints they had received.

The Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry is looking at the abuse of children in a care setting. It was set up on October 1, 2015, and has been gathering witness statement for some time as part of its remit.

The Inquiry will report to Scottish Government Ministers within four years with recommendations for the future to improve the law, policies and practices in Scotland. The report must also be presented to the Scottish Parliament.
