Police reissue armed robbery appeal

Detectives are still appealing for any witnesses to an armed robbery which took place in Cumbernauld's Westfield Industrial Estate last Thursday.

At around 5.10pm a member of staff was locking up at vending machine company Selecta’s premises in Badeneath Place when he was approached by three men who threatened him with what is believed to have been a firearm and forced him back into the building.

The trio then stole a five figure sum of money from the business. The employee was not physically injured but was badly shaken by his ordeal.

The men left in a red estate car, possibly an older model, and the employee alerted the police.

The first man is described as in his late 40s, around five feet inches tall with a slim build and unkempt appearance. The second suspect was of a similar description but wore a black balaclava. The third man skinny, aged in his twenties and around five feet six inches tall.

Officers are carrying out enquiries around the state and gathering all available CCTV footage for review.

Detective Inspector David Reilly said: “There are two roads leading into this industrial estate and the incident occurred around finishing up time, so it’s possible the red car and its occupants were seen by people as they left work yesterday. I am appealing to anyone who may have noticed the car or who has any information to contact us.”

Any witnesses should call Cumbernauld Police Office via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
