Policeman assaulted in Cumbernauld Town Centre disorder

Cumbernauld Shopping Centre was the scene of an after-hours assault on a police officer who had been sent to check out the scene last Wednesday (June 10)

Police had received reports that a drunk man had been seen in Teviot Walk around 10.30pm - and the man in question was duly identified at this location by the two officers sent over on patrol.

When they tried to engage with the man who is 41-years-old, he became abusive.

However, the matter did not end there after the man headbutted one officer in the face before resisting arrest.

The male was arrested for his disorderly conduct and police assault as well as resisting arrest.

A report on this incident has been sent to the procurator fiscal in Airdrie.
