Theft throws centre into chaos

Heartless thieves have left a busy Bellshill community centre with a hefty repair bill after swiping lead flashing from its roof.

Services at the Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre are now facing disruption as organisers arrange repairs.

A police investigation has been launched after the culprits struck sometime between 5pm on Saturday, May 17 and 9am on Wednesday, May 21.

Robert Piper, the centre’s development manager, said: “We did our best to make the roof safe in the short term but it requires a major repair which we didn’t plan for.

“Ultimately this will disrupt the services the volunteers, staff members and local groups work very hard to keep running.”
