Vandals damage council cars and vans at Lanark HQ

Nine council vehicles were damaged in a vandal attack at South Lanarkshire Council's Lanark headquarters over the Christmas holiday period.

The total cost of the damage is estimated at around £16,000.

The vandalism took place between Friday, December 23, and Wednesday, January 4, in the car park at the South Vennel offices.

“The damage caused is significant,” said police community officer James Higgins.

“Inquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible.

“Anyone with information on those responsible is urged to call Police Scotland on 101.”

The council’s head of fleet and environmental services, Shirley Clelland, said: “We are appalled at this vandalism of council vehicles.

“There were a total of nine vehicles damaged, including council pool cars and small vans.

“The damage is still being assessed in terms of the cost to carry out repairs.

“We would urge anyone with any information to contact the police.”

Police are also looking for witnesses to four other incidents.

About 8.30pm on Thursday, January 5, three men were disturbed trying to gain entry to a shed on Woolfords Farm at West Calder.

A silver Seat Leon was seen in the vicinity at the time. Anyone who saw that vehicle, or anyone with information on those responsible, is urged to call Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555111.

And on Saturday or Sunday, an outbuilding was broken into at Bogside Farm, in Hyndshaw Road, Carluke.

A Stihl saw, chainsaw and other tools were stolen.

Tools were also stolen on Saturday, December 31, or Sunday, January 1, in a break-in Kennox Farm Road, Glespin.

And between 3pm on December 31 and 5pm on January 1, a white Ford Transit was stolen from Church Lane Carluke.

It was found in Newmains, but tools valued at more than £4,000 were missing from it.
