Vandals target Christmas tree at Milton of Campsie

A Milton of Campsie councillor is slamming “heartless”
vandals after the village’s Christmas tree was damaged.

The lights were ripped from the tree at the Village Cross last weekend, leaving some of the wiring exposed.

Councillor Gary Pews (Lib Dem, Bishopbriggs North and Campsie) was alerted to the damage by Milton of Campsie Community Council Chair Alex Buist.

Councillor Pews told the Herald he arranged for an emergency call-out of a council technician to remove the damaged lights .

They also switched off the electricity supply to make the area safe – and
a new set of lights was installed within 24 hours.

Councillor Pews added: “It really is beyond belief that yobs would damage a tree that is bringing light to so many people in the village in these dark days.

“The Christmas lights were especially welcome this year and are bringing some cheer at the end of what has been a difficult year.

“So I am very grateful to council officers who responded immediately to my request on a Sunday afternoon and who then had a new set of lights installed the following day.

“We had the same issue in the village two years ago and I hope the idiots responsible will think twice about doing this again’’.
