Vehicle theft at Broadwood

Police have repeated warnings to people to be mindful of their valuables after an expensive vehicle was stolen from Broadwood Stadium.

The £65,000 vehicle was taken on Tuesday, June 17 at 5.41pm when the keys were removed from a secure locker which had been forced open.

Police inquiries into the incident are ongoing.

A police spokesman added: “high value items should not be placed within this kind of lockers.”

Last year there were other break-ins at Broadwood. On one occasion in April 2015 items belonging to Queen of the South players were stolen during a training session.

Asked about security at the stadium, Broadwood’s general manager Graeme Atkinson said: “The incidents last year were in a different part of the stadium, and we improved security with pass cards and re-suited locks for that area. I’m glad to say we’ve had no further such incidents. This current incident was the first of its kind since we opened at Broadwood, and the first time we have had a locker broken into since we opened in January 2010. We’ve had approximately 3.75 million visits in that time. We have CCTV in the Leisure Centre and we are working with the police to gather any usable evidence from the system. We are also in the middle of upgrading all of our CCTV systems across the campus to further improve security.”
