Warning after elderly woman is conned by bogus workmen

The tricksters offered to clean the gutters of her house for an agreed sum of money.

But they made off with the cash without doing any work.

A police spokesperson at Kirkintilloch said: “In this case, the elderly lady went to the bank to get the cash for the conmen.

“We would urge people to be on their guard, especially in the run-up to Christmas.

“The elderly in particular are vulnerable to this sort of crime and we would ask people to look out for their neighbours.”
