Wilful fireraising at Cumbernauld flats

Inspector Phil Rose wants information about an act of wilful fireraising in Carbrain’s Millcroft Road.

The blocks numbered 82 to 90 were affected at 6pm and a few residents had to be evacuated.

Some were given medical assistance and a minority attended Monklands Hospital for checks on smoke inhalation.

Inspector Rose said: This wilful and reckless act could have had far more serious consequences.

“Fortunately, due to the awareness of the residents and assistance from the emergency services who were in attendance, there were no fatalities.

“I would urge anyone with any information about the identities of those involved to come forward by contacting 101.”
