Witness appeal follows Kilsyth Post Office robbery attempt

At around 4.25pm on Friday, June 3 a man entered the Post Office on Backbrae Street and threatened staff with a knife.

He demanded money but when staff raised the alarm he made off empty handed in an unknown direction. Although nobody was injured staff were left in a state of shock.

The suspect is described as a white man, around five feet nine inches tall and about 30 years old. He had short dark hair and was wearing a purple/blue T-shirt, white and blue ‘Hawaiian style’ beach shorts and dark trainers with black socks. He also carried a dark rucksack with orange Adidas logo.

Detective Constable Joe Todd of Coatbridge CID said: “We know from the CCTV footage we analysed that the subject was standing around in the area prior to the failed robbery. The streets were busy at the time of the incident, so it is possible the public encountered the suspect on Main Street or West Burnside Street prior to the incident on Backbrae Street at around 4.25pm.

“It is critical we trace the man responsible. Any information you have, no matter how small, could make a real difference as part of our broader investigation.”
