Crookfur kids can go down to the woods

The school’s outdoor learning focus group welcomed their fellow pupils, mums and dads and Bethan Haston of the John Muir Trust on Thursday, and explained how they created the outdoor space by showing a video of the project from beginning to end.

The woodland trust representative declared the site open, and guests helped to complete the woodland by planting the final seeds of the wildflower meadow, and all the children — from nursery to P7 — took part in a scavenger hunt.

Head teacher Fiona Loudon said: “It was a fantastic day which really showed off all of the hard work of the whole community.

“This new outdoor learning area will be a brilliant addition to our school.

“Thank you to everyone who took part and helped us create this wonderful learning space.”

The youngsters also welcomed MP Jim Murphy and MSP Ken Macintosh the following day, and the politicians were very impressed with the school’s hard-earned woodland - even joining in the play on tree stumps and inside the Crookfur primary tipi.
