Crossford boy’s blood loss was like ‘something from a horror movie’

WHEN Crossford mum Joyce Carslaw rushed to her three year-old’s bedroom in response to his cries of distress she was confronted by “a scene from a horror movie”.In the hours which followed she lived the nightmare most parents can barely bring themsleves to think about as her son Willie struggled for life after the massive loss of practically every drop of blood in his tiny body.

The worst moment of her life came three weeks ago when, just a fortnight after an operation at Yorkhill Hospital to have his adenoids and tonsils removed, Willie suffered a near-fatal reaction to an untreated infection, one Joyce claims that doctors at the famous children’s hospital knew about.

But, she says, they discharged her son without either a proper post-op examination nor the antibiotics to combat it.
