Croy pitch set to kick off

AN announcement is believed to be imminent on the long-awaited new football pitch to be built in Croy.

It is expected to be revealed within the coming days that work is to begin on site within a matter of weeks to construct a new artificial surface and changing facilities.

Pat Johnston, chairman of the Croy Development Trust, said: “We are working in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council and are hoping to have confirmation on the project this week.

“It has taken a great deal of work and we want to ensure we get every detail right.”

Planning permission for the new facility was granted by North Lanarkshire Council in November of last year.

A state-of-the-art 3G artificial surface will be laid, protected by fencing and fully floodlit.

The surface is the type which is approved by football governing bodies FIFA and UEFA.

It is expected the pitch will be set-up in order to allow either an 11-a-side game or four seven-a-side matches to take place.

A two-storey changing facility (pictured left) will also be constructed with 14 car parking spaces for users.

The facility will also boast a ‘community club meeting room’ which will be available to local organisations.
