This year’s ‘Get Creative Adult Spring Programme’ for over 16s is all about learning new skills in friendly and relaxing surroundings and is a great opportunity to meet new people while working with some of the most experienced tutors in Scotland.

First up is a four-week creative writing course in the Community Room at Waitrose, Milgavie.

It gives writers the chance to get feedback from a professional writer and members of the writing workshop, focusing on competitions and publishing opportunities. It starts on April 19 and costs £28.

For budding artists ‘Drawing and Painting Building Confidence’ offers the combination of tuition of traditional and not so traditional drawing skills at the Lillie Art Gallery and is ideal for absolute beginners. The six-week course costs £48 and starts on Monday, May 9.

Meanwhile, ‘Townscapes and Landscapes - Drawing from the local landscape and townscape’ is a beginner’s introduction to drawing and painting, helping you to develop skills and your own style. It runs in Lennoxtown Library between April 27 and June 1 at a cost of £40.

Away from the canvas, ‘Pottering Around’ is a five-week beginner’s course to ceramics starting on April 29 in the Barony Chambers at the Auld Kirk Museum in Kirkintilloch.

For those looking for something more relaxing ‘Colouring In - Adults Only’ is on the third Monday of every month - for adults who fancy joining the trend for grown-up colouring in.

Sharpen those pencils and get yourself down to either Brookwood or William Patrick Library for an adult only evening of colouring, cheese, wine and some relaxing music.

Councillor Anne Jarvis, chair of East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust, said, “The Trust is delighted to be supporting such a fantastic and varied range of creative events for adults this spring. I hope there is something to capture the imagination of people looking for something to do this summer.

“There’s something for everyone - from the absolute beginner through to the more skilled artists and writers - and the courses are bound to capture the imagination of people looking for something to do this spring.

Booking is essential for all creative courses - on the trust’s online booking service or by calling 0141 777 3143.
