Cumbernauld College radio students reach global audience

FROM Australia to Uzbekistan, listeners from around the world have been tuning in to Cumbernauld College’s radio station in their droves.

Set up three years ago by music lecturer Darren Paramasivan, Radio Active Scotland went live on the internet last year.

Since then a steady stream of international listeners have been tuning in regularly from the likes of Brazil, Russia, Serbia, Greece, Latvia and even the Maldives and Taiwan.

Darren said: “As soon as we began broadcasting over the internet we acquired a diverse range of listeners from across the globe.

“Radio Active Scotland is broadcast through various radio forums, which is where we pick up a lot of our international listeners, and also our presenters from around the world. The students have worked extremely hard to make the station a success.”
