Cumbernauld comes out in force to celebrate Salvation Army’s 40th anniversary

HUNDREDS of people turned out in Cumbernauld to help the Salvation Army celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The local church held a family fun day and an evening celebration across the weekend and they were joined by members of the community, guests and delegates from other churches in what was hailed by organisers as a fabulous day out.

The family fun day on Saturday saw groups from all over the town come together to help the church celebrate and take part in the entertainment.

As well as two bouncy castles, the church organised balloons and stalls, all of which went down a treat with those who attended.

Lieutenant Jo Moir said: “We had about 180 people on the Saturday at the fun day and there were lots of families there that we hadn’t seen before, lots of new faces so that was great.

“And we had about 220 people for the Sunday evening service which was amazing.”

Jo and the rest of the Corps at Clouden Road were also joined by the Territorial Commander of the Salvation Army in the UK, John Matear and his wife Betty.

Added Jo: “They really enjoyed themselves.”
