Cumbernauld House Trust set to fight flats bid

A TRUST set up to preserve historic Cumbernauld House is set to fight a planning application to turn the grade A-listed property into flats.

Cumbernauld House has been sold to housing developers CHB Developments Ltd for 625,000.

The company, which has not yet applied for planning permission, wants to transform the property into four flats, with outbuildings becoming two further homes.

However, Adam Smith, spokesman for the Cumbernauld House Trust, said the group will fight the developer's plans.

He said: "We will be campaigning against planning permission.

"Cumbernauld doesn't have anything else like this, it's the only piece of history the town has."

Hugh Boyd, contracts manager for CHB Developments, said: "It's very commendable of the Trust that they want it for the people of Cumbernauld. But you have to remember it has sat empty for two and a half years."
