The members hope that this may be the year that Cumbernauld is finally awarded a Gold Award.

However, it will have to beat the historic town of Dunfermline to do so .

The volunteers came out fighting and were determined to showcase all the parts of the town that represent a fantastic community drive to make Cumbernauld a better place

Stop off-points of pride included Palacerigg Country Park, Hope Community Garden and, of course, the new Cumbernauld Peace Garden in Greenfaulds .

Adam Smith of CES said: “While we co-ordinate Cumbernauld’s overall entry to Beautiful Scotland, the judging visit couldn’t have been made possible without the support of participating groups and individual environmental projects .

“The judges didn’t give much away but we hope that this year we can see an improvement on our perpetual Silver award and a return of the Beautiful Scotland trophy following our category win in 2013.

“Dunfermline will be tough competition but we look forward to finding out the results at the Beautiful Scotland awards ceremony in Perth.’’

The ceremony will take place on Thursday, September 10, and we will be bringing the result to you as soon as it is announced.

Good luck to all the hard working community groups involved in this great team effort!
