Cumbernauld pool row rumbles on

A PLAN to make swimming accessible to all in Cumbernauld was blown out the water by leisure bosses who “just wanted to make money”.

The claim emerged as the row over lack of public access to the Tryst Centre pool rumbled into its FOURTH week.

We have learned that controversial public access restrictions could have been avoided if leisure bosses had not levied steep charges on community groups using alternative pools in local secondary schools.

Owing to a change in local regulations, swimming lessons and group use take place at the Tryst as school pools are said to be unsuitable. But this effectively bars other Tryst users from the fullest access available, and can also mean public swimming can be very busy.
