It is not known when he will be able to return to Sacred Heart Parish Church in Kildrum.

Meanwhile, there is better news about another local priest who has spent the last few weeks in intensive care, under similar circumstances.

Father Harry McKay of St Joseph's in Carbrain was taken to hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack last month.

Director of communications for the Archdiocese of Glasgow, Ronnie Convery, said: "Father McKay is still in hospital, but is improving and grateful to all who have assured him of their best wishes and prayers."
